Fremont, CA: Eczema is a common skin disorder that causes itching, rashes, dryness, and infection. It is a kind of dermatitis, a group of skin disorders that cause inflammation or irritation. The most prevalent type is atopic dermatitis or eczema. "Atopic" indicates that you are more susceptible to developing allergy illnesses like asthma and hay fever. Most people can control their symptoms by seeking therapy and avoiding irritants, which are substances that might harm their skin when they come into contact with them. The most frequent symptom of eczema is severe irritation; scratching it worsens it. Eczema can include conditions like: Atopic Dermatitis This is typically what people mean when they say "eczema." This is the most prevalent, affecting more than 7 percent of American adults. Other allergic illnesses, such as asthma or hay fever, can trigger it. It frequently starts in childhood. Dyshidrotic Eczema This type of eczema is uncommon but more challenging to treat. It causes little blisters on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and finger sides. Sweating or irritants like metals may cause it. Neurodermatitis This eczema typically causes one or two very itchy areas on the back of the neck, arm, or leg. Risk factors include having other eczema, atopic or contact dermatitis, or dehydrated skin. Certain mental health conditions, like anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, can also trigger it. Those designated females at birth (AFAB) between the ages of 30 and 50 are more probable to develop it than others. Nummular Dermatitis This coin-shaped eczema frequently arises following a skin injury, such as a burn or bug attack. Atopic dermatitis, allergies, or asthma increase your chances of developing nummular eczema. Seborrheic Dermatitis This occurs in areas of your body with many oil glands. When it appears on your scalp, it is called dandruff. It is related to various skin illnesses, such as psoriasis, acne, rosacea, and several others. Stasis Dermatitis This type occurs in persons with inadequate blood flow, generally in the lower legs. Unlike other varieties of eczema, these plaques do not indicate a genetic abnormality. Certain lifestyle behaviors, such as being overweight or not receiving enough physical activity, also increase the risk.
