8 MARCH - APRIL 2026IN MY OPINIONBy Eileen Borski, Mental Health Counselor, Spring HealthMy Role in Mental Health Transformation As a licensed professional counselor and the proud owner of Authentic Brain Solutions, I provide individuals with innovative, evidence-based tools to enhance their mental health and well-being. My practice specializes in advanced therapeutic techniques, particularly Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback. These therapies are designed to address complex mental health challenges, including trauma, anxiety, and PTSD. My responsibilities range from direct patient care to fostering educational outreach, ensuring the highest standards of treatment, and continuously promoting mental health awareness in the community. The Journey to EMDR Therapy My professional journey began with a deep fascination for the intersection of neuroscience and mental health. It was during my initial training as a counselor that I discovered EMDR therapy. I was captivated by its remarkable ability to help clients heal from trauma. Over the years, I've witnessed firsthand how EMDR allows individuals to process and heal from distressing memories that often trap them in cycles of anxiety, depression, or PTSD. EMDR therapy became an essential tool in my practice because of its proven, science-backed success in transforming lives. Why EMDR Is a Game-Changer in Mental Health Care EMDR stands out in mental health care by targeting the root causes of psychological distress rather than just alleviating symptoms. This unique therapy uses bilateral stimulation--like guided eye movements or body tapping--to help individuals reprocess traumatic memories, reducing the emotional charge and enabling clients to reframe their experiences more adaptively. Extensive research supports EMDR's efficacy in treating PTSD, anxiety, and chronic pain. At Authentic Brain Solutions, I've seen incredible results--clients who previously felt stuck have experienced significant healing, with those suffering from severe PTSD finding relief and renewed confidence after EMDR therapy.Overcoming the Challenges of EMDR Therapy One of the biggest challenges in EMDR therapy is the stigma surrounding mental health issues, especially among certain groups, such as men and high-achieving professionals. Many individuals come to me believing they must face their struggles alone, which can delay access to life-changing therapies like EMDR. Furthermore, skepticism about the EMDR process can also pose a barrier. To overcome these hurdles, we focus on education and personalized care.
